Sharon Ann Smith

Sharon Ann Smith, 67, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018 in Louisville, KY. She was born on March 18, 1951 in Hopkinsville to the late John F. Petty and Myra Brown Petty. Sharon worked for over 27 years as a teacher. She was an elementary guidance counselor and elementary music teacher in Breckenridge and Christian Counties, a high school choral director in Hayti, Missouri and an academic counselor at Hopkinsville Community College. While her children were in high school, she served as president of the Elizabethtown Band Boosters. After her retirement, she worked as the assistant librarian for the Owensboro Symphony and Youth Orchestra and sang in the Messiah. She was also an accompanist at Brescia University. Sharon was very active at First Baptist Church where she was a devoted music ministry assistant and played piano, sang in the choir and played cello in their orchestra. She also served in the Gideon’s Auxiliary. Her entire life was lived in loving and serving others.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Wendell A. Smith; two sons, Matthew B. Smith (Nicole) of New Windsor, New York and Andrew Smith (Valerie) of Land O’Lakes, Florida; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Josiah, Caleb, Sadie, Ellie and Zoie.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 230 J.R. Miller Blvd, Owensboro, KY. A private family burial will be at a later date in Green Hill Memorial Gardens, Hopkinsville. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory, 3009 Frederica Street, Owensboro, KY and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
