Susan Marie Wellman, 70, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. She was born August 19, 1948, in Owensboro to the late John E. Callery and Myrtle Ferguson Callery. Susan graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School in 1966, received her undergraduate degree from Brescia College and Master’s degree from Western Kentucky University.
Susan was a lifelong educator who began her teaching career at Blessed Mother. She spent the next sixteen years at Our Lady of Lourdes before moving to Sutton Elementary where she taught for twenty years. She finished her career at Estes Elementary serving as a curriculum facilitator. She loved spending time with family, especially on those Hilton Head vacations where she brought everyone together. She was an avid reader, gardener and enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays. Susan was a strong and positive influence on everyone around her and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James Eldon Wellman; sons Jimmy Wellman (Lora) of Owensboro and Jeffrey Wellman (Carissa) of Louisville; daughter Sarah McCarter (Buddy) of Owensboro; brothers Bill Callery (Cindy) of Leitchfield and John Callery (Lia) of Oklahoma City; sister Cheryl Roberts (Jim) of Louisville; grandchildren Jakob and Luke Wellman of Owensboro, Sydney and Ashley Wellman of Louisville and Charlie McCarter of Owensboro as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are 10 am Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 pm on Wednesday, Sept 5 and after 8:30 am on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
