William Edward Barrass

William Edward Barrass, 84, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born in Long Beach, California, Mr. Barrass was raised in Hartford, KY.

He was a graduate of Centre College, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. Mr. Barrass had worked with Johnson, Depp, and Quisenberry and Reynolds Tobacco Company before joining Texas Gas Transmission Corporation from which he retired in 1992 as purchasing manager. He was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and its Open Door Sunday school class.

His interests and activities included serving as past president of the Kentucky Wesleyan College All America Club, membership in the Owensboro Lions Club, and involvement with Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, the Wendell Foster Center, the Mary Kendall Home, the HELP office and the Heart Foundation. A devoted fan of University of Kentucky basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals, Mr. Barrass also coached Little League baseball in both the East and West Daviess County divisions and Upward Basketball at his church.

Preceding him in death were his wife Sarah “Sadie” Johnson Barrass, his grandson William Jacob Hulett, his brother Donald Barrass, and his parents Maurice Mitchell Barrass and Marian Turner Barrass.

Mr. Barrass is survived by his daughters, Ann Haynes of Owensboro and Beth Hulett and her husband David of Lexington; his grandchildren David Haynes and Sarah Haynes of Owensboro and Haley Hulett and Abbey Hulett of Lexington, his sister Carole Anne Barrass of Owensboro, and his sister-in-law Martha Barrass of Beaver Dam.

The funeral service for Mr. Barrass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
