I had the privilege of serving as a judge on Wednesday at the third annual We’ve Got Talent Too! talent show, and it was one of the most uplifting events I’ve attended in quite some time.
Hosted by the Opportunity Center of Owensboro and partner agencies from across the region, the event featured an impressive lineup of performers representing organizations that serve individuals with disabilities and other special needs. From singing and dancing to instrumental performances, the talent on display was remarkable.
As judges, we were tasked with selecting winners, but the truth is, every participant who took the stage deserved recognition. The courage, preparation, and enthusiasm shown by each performer made the competition both challenging and rewarding to judge.
What stood out most throughout the day was the support participants showed one another. Performers cheered for fellow contestants, celebrated each performance, and created an atmosphere filled with encouragement. That same spirit was echoed by family members, caregivers, agency staff, sponsors, and community members who packed the venue and enthusiastically supported every act.
When the scores were tallied, first place went to Louie Moffett of the Opportunity Center for his performance of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love.” Leland Isbill of GRADSA earned second place with a harmonica performance of Rip Lee Pryor’s “Shake Your Boogie,” while Hunter Ross of the Opportunity Center placed third for his rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.”
Merek Justice of GRADSA finished fourth with a dance performance to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It,” and Jacqueline Klee of the Opportunity Center earned fifth place for singing Patsy Cline’s “Walkin’ After Midnight.”
While the winners were certainly deserving, the event was about much more than trophies or rankings. It provided an opportunity for individuals from multiple agencies to showcase their talents, build confidence, and be celebrated by the community.
The support from sponsors, volunteers, and attendees was second to none, but more than anything, the event served as a reminder of the joy that can come from simply gathering together and appreciating one another. It was an afternoon filled with talent, laughter, encouragement, and countless reasons to smile.
