Katherine C. Hoffman appeared at Daviess County District Court on Friday for an arraignment after the Grand Jury charged Hoffman with four criminal counts, including first-degree assault, kidnapping an adult and criminal attempt to commit murder.

Hoffman allegedly shot Omari McFarlane on Sept. 23. Hoffman’s attorney said there was more to the story and asked that a bond hearing be set for Hoffman. The bond is currently set at $500,000. Hoffman’s attorney asked for a hearing to be set within the next couple weeks, though no date was officially set at the arraignment.

The pretrial conference for Hoffman’s case is set for January 7.

Katherine E. Hoffman, who allegedly shot Omari McFarlane on Sept. 23, will face four total charges on an indictment submitted by the grand jury in the case of the Commonwealth of Kentucky vs. Katherine Elizabeth Hoffman.

Hoffman, 35, was charged with three felonies and a class A misdemeanor, including kidnapping an adult, a criminal attempt to commit murder, assault in the first degree and endangering the welfare of a minor.

For the attempted murder charge, the grand jury submitted paperwork regarding the details of their charges to the Daviess County Judicial Center, determining that on Sept. 23, Hoffman committed the offense of criminal attempt to commit murder when, “acting with the kind of culpability otherwise required for the crime of murder, she intentionally shot Omari McFarlane, which is a substantial step in the course of conduct planned to culminate in the commission of murder.”

The kidnapping charge stems from initial allegations pointing to Hoffman’s activity in shooting McFarlane in his home before forcing him inside a vehicle, driving away and parking the vehicle on a country road, where she allegedly shot him again while inside the vehicle.

The grand jury determined that Hoffman kidnapped McFarlane with the intent to inflict bodily injury, unlawfully restrained him and released him alive, but with serious physical injury.

Commonwealth Attorney Bruce Kuegel signed off on all charges, and Owensboro Police Department Detective Josh Alsip serves as a witness to all charges.

The case went to the grand jury where a judge pled not guilty on Hoffman’s behalf after Hoffman pled neither guilty nor not guilty to initial charges. Hoffman’s bail was set at $500,000.

The arraignment date for Hoffman’s case has been set for Friday, Nov. 16 at 8:30 a.m.
