Brescia soccer, volleyball successful over weekend

Brescia University’s men’s and women’s soccer teams each picked up a win Sunday in their opening matches, while the volleyball team got three wins over the weekend.

The soccer teams traveled to St. Mary-of-the-Woods to begin the season.

After giving up a goal, the women’s team rallied to a 3-1 victory. The Lady Bearcats got goals from Rebecca Chin (Kassi Gilbert assist), Erin McGuire (Haley Coons assist) and Allison Chappell (McGuire assist)

The men earned a 2-0 shutout, with goals by Sam Coxon (Karim Ndoye assist) and Ndoye.

Brescia’s volleyball team won three of four games in Bowling Green for the Mid-South Challenge tournament Friday and Saturday.

Friday, the Lady Bearcats lost 2-3 (25-20,16-25, 25-13, 24-26,15-17) to Shawnee State University. They then picked up a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 29-27)  victory against Cumberland University.

On Saturday, Brescia beat Life University 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19), and also picked up a 3-0 (25-12, 27-25, 25-14) win against the University of Pikeville.
