Eagles soccer wins; 3 volleyball teams victorious

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

Daviess County girls golf was scheduled to play at Hancock County, but the course was in bad condition and the match was cancelled.

Boys Soccer — Apollo 1, Owensboro Catholic 0

Apollo (3-2, 2-0 District 9) won on a goal by Yo Shi Ya, who converted on a penalty kick. Leading the team in shots on goal was Sui Thang (5), followed by Lucas Rigling (3), Jaelin Kirk (3), Ya (2), Harrison Bowman (2), Wes Knott (1) and Wai Yan (1). The Eagles will now play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bowling Green.

The Aces (1-4, 0-2) got eight saves in goal from Boone McElroy. OCHS plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian County.

Volleyball — Apollo 3, Henderson Co. 0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-14)

The E-Gals (7-3) won in straight sets Thursday on the road. Apollo’s freshman and JV teams also both won in straight sets. The varsity team was lead by Hallie Wilson (10 digs, 5 aces), Natalie Ewing (7 kills, 3 blocks), Taylor Blair (6 kills), Jenna McMillen (4 kills, 4 digs) and Carlee Widmer (5 kills, 22 assists). Apollo plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Owensboro (2-9).

Volleyball — Trinity 3, Butler Co. 0 (27-25, 25-11, 25-18)

The Lady Raiders (7-2) picked up a road win in straight sets. Leading the team were Savannah Aull (15 kills, 8 assists), Nina Wathen (9 kills, 15 assists) and Morgan Kinsey (2 kills, 3 aces). Trinity plays at home at 6 p.m. Monday against Union County.

Volleyball — Daviess Co. 3, McLean Co. 0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-11)

The Lady Panthers (7-2) won at home Thursday. They were led by Elizabeth Moore (7 kills), Morgan Ralph (3 blocks), Hannah Axley (13 assists) and Sydney Speed (6 aces). DCHS plays in the Best of the West Tournament this weekend.

Volleyball — Owensboro 2, Webster Co. 3 (19-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-16, 17-15)

The Lady Devils (2-9) won the first two sets, but dropped the final three on the road.

Leading the team was Krystell Pappas (7 aces, 8 kills, 20 assists, 7 digs), Lainey Hayden (5 aces, 4 kills), Mykael Winstead (10 kills), Jersie Rhineburger (26 digs), Kennedy Thompson (6 assists) and Mia Covington (5 kills, 8 digs). Owensboro will play again this weekend in the Best of the West Tournament.
