Jack Lashbrook put up a 38 for Owensboro, while Macey Brown carded a 41 for Apollo to lead their golf teams to victory Monday at Ben Hawes.

The boys competition was a dual match between the Red Devils and Apollo, with Owensboro earning the win 174-211. Apollo’s girls edged out Madisonville-North Hopkins (194-196), and a pair of Lady Devils participated as individuals.

Lashbrook was the boys’ medalist, followed closely by teammate Paul Iracane (39). Head coach Tim Wimsatt said both have worked hard to find success.

“Both are mentally tough kids who are able to bounce back after tough shots,” Wimsatt said. “Jack has put in a great deal of work with his putter and it’s starting to pay off. Paul is finding ways to make shots when he really needs to make them. He’s been steady for us all year, and today was more of the same.”

Brown tied for girls’ medalist, and she is coming off a personal best 18-hole score of 75  Saturday at the Baron County Invitational. Head coach Jarrod Carter said Brown has made changes both mentally and physically to improve.

“Last year she worried so much about her distance, being much shorter than most of the girls,” Carter said. “Her dad found a swing coach who has helped her make better contact, giving her the distance she needed to compete. She is very coachable and easily makes the changes she needs to make. Macey is becoming a solid player.”

Carter said he’s also impressed with the rest of his team so far.

“The team is coming around faster than expected,” he said. “I’m still looking for Briley (Carter) to be more consistent. Brooke (Brown) is playing better than expected after playing softball all summer. My 7th-grader Mary Ann (Lyons) is making great strides. I like where we are right now.”

Rounding out the scoring for the E-Gals were Carter (43), Brown (47) and Lyons (63).

Owensboro’s participants were Savannah Gatton (46) and Angel Howson (49).

For the Owensboro boys, the other scorers were James Rhineburger (47) and Andrew Chancellor (50).

Nathan Payne led the Eagles with a 47, followed by Noah Stewart (49), Isaac Crabtree (55) and Aiden Watson (60).
