Owensboro Catholic’s golf teams brought home the All ‘A’ 3rd region tournament with wins Tuesday at the Ben Hawes Golf Course.

Whitesville Trinity’s boys finished in second place in the All ‘A’ Tournament, while the Daviess County girls were also on the course but not competing in tournament.

Jakob Wellman’s 37 led the Aces to a team score of 162, beating out Trinity (172), Edmonson County (198) and Hancock County (232).

Aces head coach Bretnea Turner-Thomas was proud of the victory, which qualifies the team to play at the All ‘A’ Classic, a state tournament for small schools.

“Today we accomplished our first goal of our season — making sure we get to play in the Classic,” Turner-Thomas said. “I have a young team this year and we are reminded of that often, as we have weekly tournaments and matches with some inconsistent scoring. However, this group of young men is dedicated to the sport and more importantly, dedicated to each other.”

Other scorers for the Aces were Griffin Payne (40), Reece Higdon (41) and JT Payne (44).

Trinity was led by Trent Morris and Sam Russelburg, who each shot a 41. Blake McBrayer (44) and Hunter O’Bryan (46) also scored.

The Lady Aces shot a team score of 180, led by Emma Payne’s 37. Maddi Roberts added a 41, Abby Bannick shot 42, and Conleigh Osborne finished with a 60 for Owensboro Catholic.

For the Lady Panthers, Addison Heady (40), Emilee Clark (43), Holly Holton (44) and Grace Heady (47) combined for a team score of 174.
