Soccer, volleyball, golf teams all compete

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

Moore’s 4 goals lead Lady Aces past Lady Devils
Girls Soccer — Owensboro Catholic 5, Owensboro 1
Four goals from Lily Moore were more than enough for the Lady Aces (5-1, 3-0 District 9) to take down the Lady Devils on the road Tuesday night.

Owensboro Catholic got on the board first with a pair of back-to-back goals about 10 minutes into the game. Moore got her first score of the night off an assist from Amelia Fusco, and the duo reversed roles for the next goal two minutes later.

Moore got her hat trick by halftime, as she scored with 8:45 and 2:10 to go, both times unassisted.

Lady Aces head coach Kelli Brannock said she had to give credit to Owensboro for fighting and coming out strong in the second half. The Lady Devils quickly got on the board when Macey Cundiff scored on a header off a corner kick from Alexis Westerfield only 2 minutes into the second half.

Moore capitalized on a header of her own when Lauren Eyre sent a corner kick into the box with 4:56 to play. Brannock said she was able to get all of her 9-12th graders time in the game.

Megan Goodwin had three saves for OCHS, while Aubrie Schueler had 10 saves for Owensboro.

The Lady Aces hit the road for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday at Ohio County. The Lady Devils are off until Tuesday, when they play at 7 p.m. at Daviess County.

Aces soccer picks up home win over Hart County
Boys Soccer — Owensboro Catholic 5, Hart County 3
The Aces (2-4, 0-2 District 9) bounced back after allowing an early goal to earn a home victory. OCHS got a pair of goals from Kevin Piedrahita, while Joseph Fusco, Caleb Ranallo and Cole Blandford added one score each. Luke Payne had two assists, and Fusco and Blandford added one a piece. Boone McElroy had 5 saves in goal.

The Aces will host Owensboro (3-2-1, 0-2 District 9) at 7 p.m. Thursday.

E-Gals, Lady Raiders, Lady Aces volleyball all win
Girls Volleyball — Apollo 3, Owensboro 0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-10)
The E-Gals (8-3, 2-0 District 9) bumped their win streak to four with a sweep over the Lady Devils (2-13, 0-2 District 9). Leading Apollo were Carlee Widmer (18 assists, 5 aces, 4 kills), Jenna McMillen (9 kills) and Natalie Ewing (5 kills).

Leaders for Owensboro were Lainey Hayden (2 aces, 2 kills), Mykael Winstead (4 kills) and Krystell Pappas (7 assists).

Apollo remains on the road at 7:30 p.m. Thursday when they go to Hopkinsville. The Lady Devils stay home for a 6:30 p.m. match against Frederick Fraize.

Girls Volleyball — Trinity 3, Edmonson County 0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-9)
The Lady Raiders (9-2, 2-0 District 12) got the sweep on the road. Leading the team were Savannah Aull (9 kills, 11 assists), Nina Wathen (11 kills, 9 assists), Morgan Kinsey (3 kills, 3 aces), Jenna McDowell (4 kills) and Cassidy Morris (3 kills, 3 aces).

Trinity plays again at 6 p.m. Thursday against Grayson County.

Girls Volleyball — Owensboro Catholic 3, Daviess County 1 (25-14, 25-27, 25-18, 25-23)
Owensboro Catholic (1-5, 1-1 District 9) won a tight match on the road at Daviess County (8-5, 1-1 District 9). No stats were available from OCHS.

Leading the Lady Panthers were Elizabeth Moore (13 Kills, 9 digs), Ashton Johnson (8 kills), Morgan Ralph (4 kills), Jasmine Beasley (4 kills), Kinsley Phelps (3 kills, 8 blocks), Sydney Speed (15 digs), Kendal Goetz (9 digs), Delaney Evans (12 assists, 9 digs), Kayla Hagan (8 digs), Hannah Axley (9 assists) and Ryann Keller (6 assists).

The Lady Aces play again a 7 p.m. Tuesday against Owensboro. The Lady Panthers play at home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Ohio County.

DCHS girls golf edges OCHS, AHS
Girls Golf — Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic
Daviess County (185) won a three-team match with Owensboro Catholic (191) and Apollo (205) on the back nine holes at Ben Hawes Golf Course. Owensboro also had a pair of individuals compete Tuesday.

The Lady Aces’ Emma Payne was the medalist on the day with a 38, followed closely by the Lady Panthers’ Addison and Grace Heady, who shot 41 and 42, respectively.

The Headys’ effort led to the win for DCHS, who also got scoring from Kirsten Henderson (52) and Holly Holton (52).

Other scorers for OCHS were Abby Bannick (44), Maddi Roberts (48) and RC Porter (61).

The E-Gals were led by Briley Carter’s 44, and they also got scoring from Macey Brown (46), Brooke Brown (50) and Mary Ann Lyons (65).

Owensboro’s Savannah Gatton (44) and Angel Howson (63) competed as individuals.
