Augenstein posted rounds of 64, 68, 68 and 70 in stroke play at the Western Amatuer, held at Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, Illinois. His 13th-place finish allowed him to advance to match play, where the top 16 players face off head-to-head until only one remains.

Augenstein won his first match against Collin Morikawa, but he could not hold on to a late lead against Brandon Wu and advance to the quarterfinals. Augenstein was up two with two holes to go, but Wu got the score all square to force a playoff. Wu won the first hole to eliminate Augenstein.
