Yesterday in Sports: Local golf, AHS volleyball

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

Apollo, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic girls golf all played in the Barren County Invitational. Daviess County boys golf played in the 55th KY Invitational Tournament. Apollo volleyball competed at Evansville Mater Dei.

Apollo, Owensboro and Daviess County boys golf were originally scheduled to compete in the Schoolboy Classic at Windward Heights, but the tournament was cancelled due to bad course conditions.

Barren County Invitational — Daviess County, Apollo, and Owensboro Catholic girls golf

Daviess County finished fourth in the tournament with a score of 354. Scorers for the Lady Panthers were Grace Heady (80), Holly Holton (86), Addison Heady (92) and Emilee Clark (96).

Apollo took ninth place in the tournament with a score of 393. Scoring for the E-Gals were Macey Brown (75), Briley Carter (84), Brooke Brown (97) and Mary Ann Lyons (137).

Three girls competed for Owensboro Catholic as individuals. Emma Payne (78), Maddi Roberts (85) and Abby Bahnick (86) scored for the Lady Aces.

Daviess County boys golf

The Panthers boys finished 16th at the 55th KY Invitational Tournament with a team score of 309. Daniel Love (71) led the way for the Panthers and tied for 13th. Other scoring came from Jesse Holton (72), Brady Huckleberry (83), Nick Johnson (83) and Braden Whistle (85).

Apollo volleyball

The E-Gals fell in 3 sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-23) at Evansville Mater Dei. Leading the team were Carlee Widmer (23 assists, six kills, four digs), Jenna McMillen (11 kills), Natalie Ewing (five kills, four blocks), Anslee Hopewell (seven digs) and Hallie Wilson (six digs). Apollo plays again Tuesday at Bowling Green.
