E-Gals, Panthers pick up soccer wins

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

The Apollo girls and Daviess County boys soccer teams each picked up a win Friday.

GIRLS — Apollo 9, Evansville Christian School 1
The E-Gals rolled to a home win Friday (3-4) in a game that was cut short due to weather. Shelby Taylor led the way for Apollo with three goals and four assists. Caitlyn Blandford and Kate Isbell added two goals each, while Liza Vinson and Alyssa Lawrence each scored once. Blandford also had two assists, and Kailee Quisenberry and Gracie Cart had one assist each.

Keely Eans and Madison Julian combined for two saves in goal. Apollo returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a district matchup at Owensboro Catholic.

BOYS — Daviess County 5, John Hardin 0
The Panthers (8-0) won their first game of the Purples Classic in Bowling Green with their second consecutive shutout. Brian Winkler was the first to score for Daviess County, and he also added three assists. Max Miller provided the assist for Winkler, then Miller added a pair of goals on his own in the second half. Jacob Boling and Tanner Andersen each scored one goal, while Declan Sandifer added an assist.

The Panthers play in a pair of games today as part of the Purples Classic. At noon, they face Mercer County, and they’ll play Lafayette at 5 p.m.
