HS soccer, volleyball; elementary XC results

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

The Apollo girls’ soccer team picked up a district win over Owensboro. Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic boys’ soccer each got road shutouts.

In volleyball, Apollo swept Owensboro Catholic and Daviess County swept Owensboro, while Trinity won at home.

Also included are the results from the East Daviess County cross country race, the second of four events this year.

GIRLS SOCCER
E-Gals get win over Lady Devils
Apollo (5-5, 1-4 District 9) avenged a loss from early in the season with a 3-0 win at Owensboro (4-5, 1-4). Kate Isbell, Shelby Taylor and Alyssa Lawrence each had a goal.

Isbell and Taylor added one assist each, and Zoe Floyd had the shutout in goal. The E-Gals are off until Tuesday when they play Daviess County.

Abby Schueler had three saves for Owensboro, who returns to action Thursday against Henderson County.

BOYS SOCCER
Panthers still undefeated, get shutout on road
A 6-0 halftime lead for Daviess County (11-0-1) turned into an 8-0 victory over Ohio County. Brian Winkler had a hat trick to lead the Panthers in scoring.

DCHS also got goals from Maxten Miller (2), Jacob Boling (2) and Hunter Clark. Winkler and Miller added two assists, while Boling, Declan Sandifer, Hayden Glover, Jacob Dowdy and Bay La each had one.

The Panthers return home Thursday for a game against Owensboro.

Aces pick up win at home

Owensboro Catholic (4-7) got a 4-0 shutout at home with each goal coming from a different player. Caleb Ranallo, Jack Higgins, Joe Fusco and Kevin Piedrahita all scored for the Aces.

Ranallo, Fusco and Cole Blandford each had an assist. Boone McElroy had three saves in goal. OCHS plays again at home Thursday when they host Apollo.

VOLLEYBALL
Apollo takes down Owensboro Catholic in straight sets
The E-Gals (15-4, 4-0 District 9) rolled to another victory over district opponent Lady Aces (5-6, 2-2), winning 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15).

Leading the way for Apollo was Jenna McMillen (12 kills), Natalie Ewing (4 kills, 3 blocks), Brylee Rhodes (3 kills, 3 blocks), Carlee Widmer (4 kills, 14 assists) and Lindsey Hargitt (3 blocks, 5 digs, 3 kills). No stats were available for the Lady Aces.

Apollo plays again Thursday against Caldwell County. Owensboro Catholic is off until Tuesday when they play Daviess County.

Daviess County sweeps Owensboro

The Lady Panthers (11-6, 2-2 District 9) got a home win over Owensboro (4-17, 0-4) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-12).

DCHS was led by Ashton Johnson (9 kills, 2 digs), Kinsley Phelps (4 kills, 4 digs) Kendal Goetz (15 digs), Jasmine Beasley (4 kills) Delaney Evans (9 assists, 4 digs) and Hannah Axley (9 assists).

Leading OHS were Lainey Hayden (5 kills, 3 blocks, 3 assists), Jersie Rhineburger (3 kills, 3 digs), Armanda Pappas (2 kills, 2 digs), Krystell Pappas (11 assists, 5 digs, 2 kills) and Kennedy Thompson (3 digs).

The Lady Panthers return to action Thursday at Meade County, while the Lady Devils stay home Thursday to play Breckinridge County.

Trinity picks up another home win

Trinity (14-3) rolled to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-20) win at home over Muhlenberg County. The Lady Raiders were led by Savannah Aull (10 kills), Nina Wathen (4 kills, 10 assists), Brittney Booker (5 digs) and Mary Hardesty (5 aces).

Trinity will hit the road Thursday for a match at Hancock County.
