KWC volleyball, soccer compete over weekend

The KWC volleyball team split a pair of matches over the weekend. The women’s soccer team picked up a win, but the men’s team fell at home Saturday.

Panthers split weekend matches
The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 14-25, 25-14) to G-MAC newcomer Tiffin University Friday.

The Panthers held slim leads in the first two sets but Tiffin close strong each time to get the 2-0 lead. The second set featured a 7-0 run that built a 23-11 lead for the Panthers, but Tiffin closed out the night in the next frame.

Sierra Morrow led with 12 kills, while Danielle Brouillette added 11 and Nilah Roy had 10. Nicole Venema had 27 digs, and Lydia Jackson added 21 assists and 10 digs.

The Panthers rebounded for a 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-15, 25-21) victory over Cedarville Saturday. The Panthers (8-6, 3-3 G-MAC) took the early lead, but the Yellowjackets (2-10, 1-4 G-MAC) evened the match by winning the second set. The final two sets were largely controlled by KWC.

Leading the team were Autumn Harris (9 kills), Sierra Morrow (8 kills), Danielle Brouillette (8 kills), Nicole Venema (20 digs) and Lydia Jackson (21 assists). The Panthers take on Trevecca Nazarene University on at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Last-minute goal lifts Panthers to win
The women’s soccer team used a goal from Sarah Haleman in the final minute to upend Tiffin 3-2 Saturday for a conference victory.

The Panthers (2-3-1, 2-2-1 G-MAC) struck first in the 22nd minute with a goal by Madisyn Hunt. Haleman directed the lead pass to Hunt, who slipped behind the defense, converting through the right side of the net. The Dragons (0-7, 0-5 G-MAC) tied the match in the 39th minute and the teams went into the break all even.

In the second half, Breigh Haase got behind the defense off a pass from Kamryn Pulliam, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Tiffin tied the match in the 54th minute. The final score came when Natalie Hinchcliffe led Haleman down the center of the field. Two touches later the Panthers had the lead and only 39 seconds remained.

The Panthers will host Trevecca Nazarene at 6 p.m. Saturday.

MEN’S SOCCER
KWC falls to Tiffin at home
Tiffin struck early at Panther Field and left with a 5-1 victory over the KWC men’s soccer team. Josh Barnett scored the lone goal of the match for the Panthers, while Selvin Hernandez got the assist.

The Dragons (5-2, 3-1 G-MAC) scored twice in succession to take a quick 2-0 lead. Barnett got the Panthers (1-5, 0-4 G-MAC) on the board in the 24th minute.

The Panthers host Trevecca Nazarene at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
