The Owensboro Catholic soccer teams each lost close games in the first round of the All “A” Classic State Tournament in Frankfort. The girls fell 4-2 to Bethlehem, while the boys were edged out 2-1 by Oneida Baptist Institute.

The Lady Aces (9-3-1) found themselves in a 2-0 hole 15 minutes in, but they leveled the score by halftime. Ashton Logsdon got the first goal off an assist by Lily Moore, and Moore got the equalizer off a pass by Izzy Stanfield with 2 minutes before the break.

Bethlehem went ahead with a goal in the 55th minute. They scored again with 22 seconds to play after the Lady Aces pushed all 11 players up for the final 3 minutes to try to tie the contest.

Head coach Kelli Brannock said OCHS dominated possession in the first half and outshot Bethlehem 15-4, but couldn’t find the net like they wanted. The Lady Aces finished with a 24-14 shot advantage. Megan Goodwin had 12 saves in goal.

“They finished their few chances on their counters and we weren’t able to capitalize when we had it locked in,” Brannock said. “It’s not how we wanted to finish the second third of the season. But we will recharge, re-energize and get back after it next week.”

The Aces (5-10) also lost in a narrow decision to cut their tournament short. OCHS got a lone goal from Jack Bach, with the assist from Joe Fusco. Boone McElroy had one save in goal.

The Lady Aces travel to Bowling Green at 7 p.m. Tuesday, while the Aces are on the road at Grayson County at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
