“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

BOYS SOCCER
Game 1 — Hopkinsville 5, Owensboro 4
Game 2 — Owensboro 9, Christian County 2
The Red Devils (11-4-1) split their games in the Colonel Showcase hosted by Hopkinsville. OHS lost to Hopkinsville in the morning contest before rolling to a big win over Christian County in the night game.

Owensboro overcame a 4-0 halftime deficit against Hopkinsville but gave up the go-ahead goal on a late corner header. Joshua Head had two goals to go along with one each from Andrew Saltsman and Grayson McFarland. Fermin Mosqueda had two assists, and Saltsman had one.

The Red Devils used four goals from Paxton Jenkins en route to a big victory in the second game. Austin Sovar (2), Reis Dickenson, McFarland and Saltsman also scored. McFarland (3), Sovar (2), Jenkins, Saltsman and Ryan Black each added assists.

Owensboro returns to action when they host Bowling Green at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

GIRLS SOCCER
Game 1 — Apollo 8, Logan County 0
Game 2 — Overton (Nashville, Tenn.) 2, Apollo 1
The E-Gals (6-8) split a pair of games at the Colonel Showcase hosted by Hopkinsville. No stats were available for the contests. Apollo returns to action at 6 p.m. Monday on the road at Henderson County.

VOLLEYBALL
Trinity competed in the Metcalfe County Slam Jam Tournament. Results that were available included a 2-0 (25-10, 25-12) win over Barren County and a 2-0 (25-19, 25-23) loss to Brown. The Lady Raiders play at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Edmonson County.

CROSS COUNTRY
Apollo (girls) — Pike Central XC Invitational in Petersburg, Ind.
The E-Gals finished fifth behind scoring from runners Samme Roberts (20:05.80, 8th), Abby Rumage (21:20.50, 24th), Baylee Hare (21:28.70, 27th), Angel King (22:11.40, 36th) and Caroline Boarman (22:18.00, 41st).

Daviess County (boys/girls) — Gatorland Run in Bowling Green
The girls team took seventh place behind scoring runners Ellie Crabtree (22:18.79, 26th), Avery Heath (22:22.75, 27th), Roz Perkins (23:06.55, 37th), Haley Rowland (23:44.38, 51st) and Ashley Ward (23:48.37, 52nd).

The boys finished 13th behind scoring runners Garrett Mayfield (18:35.62, 46th), Gavin Sanders (18:51.35, 54th), Harrison Leachman (19:24.78, 73rd), David Abel (19:27.26, 75th) and Skylar McDaniel (19:29.75, 76th).

Daviess County (boys/girls) — Saturday Night Lights IX in Centerville, Ohio
The boys took 15th and were led by Brady Terry (16:04.30, 16th). Also scoring for the Panthers were Alex Adams (16:33.70, 38th), Logan Gish (17:01.09, 80th), Evan Swift (17:15.40, 94th) and Justin Shelton (17:33.00, 118th).

The girls team finished 16th and were led by Karlee Hoffman (18:30.30, 21st). Other scoring runners were Riliegh Owens (20:02.50, 98th), Ainsley Taylor (20:04.90, 102th), Emily Ann Roberts (20:16.80, 114th) and Lauren Howe (20:24.50, 126th).

Owensboro (boys/girls) — Marshall County Invitational in Benton
The boys team finished eighth with scores from runners Michael Ashley (17:50.23, 19th), Gavin Miller (18:56.28, 47th), Nathaniel Turner (19:08.06, 52nd), Timothy Payne (19:40.68, 65th) and Jonathan Coleman (21:14.59, 92nd).

The girls only had four runners competing as individuals in Tasih Pettigrew (22:36.78), Ashley Colburn (23:04.98), Katia Villapondo (26:42.38) and Alondra Villapondo (28:43.11).

Owensboro Catholic (girls) — Gatorland Run in Bowling Green
The Lady Aces finished 10th behind scoring runners Bethany Mayfield (23:03.10, 35th), Kate Weafer (23:17.11, 41st), Elisa Clouse (24:17.28, 57th), Anna Lee Meyer (24:37.65, 61st) and Katie Hayden (24:39.06, 62nd).
