Brown, Payne wrap up season at state

Wednesday marked the official end of the golfing season as Macey Brown and Emma Payne competed in the final round of the girls state tournament.

Apollo’s Brown and Owensboro Catholic’s Payne made the cut Tuesday to advance to the championship round. Brown finished with scores of 81 and 84 to finished in a tie for 30th place, while Payne shot 80-88 to tie for 38th.

The pair played together in the second round, where they started their day on the 10th hole. Each had a pair of double bogeys, and Payne also recorded one birdie on the day.

Brown tied for the lowest score posted by a freshman at the tournament.
