Cross country teams post strong results

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

Teams in action:
Cross Country — Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro

DAVIESS COUNTY
The boys and girls teams from Daviess County ran in the Oldham County Cross Country Haunted Woods Classic in Buckner. The girls finished in third place, while the boys took fifth in their respective meets.

Karlee Hoffman (19:00.0) led the Lady Panthers with a third-place finish. Ainsley Taylor (18th, 20:11.2), Emily Roberts (20th, 20:32.7), Emily Rempe (21st, 20:41.6) and Lauren Howe (22nd, 20:44.8) came across as a solid group together.

For the Panthers, Brady Terry took sixth place with a time of 16:36.3, and Alex Adams (16:49.7) finished in 15th.

APOLLO, OWENSBORO
The Apollo boys’ team, as well as boys and girls from Owensboro, raced in the McCracken County Invitational at Stuart Nelson Park in Paducah. The Eagles took first place to edge out Madisonville-North Hopkins.

Apollo was led by a sixth-place finish from Ethan Dych (17:05.3), who was followed closely by seventh-place teammate Thomas Ashby (17:11.6). Blake Rigdon (17:35.8), Justin Sandefur (17:48.4) and Leland Smith (17:49.1) all finished inside the top 20.

The Owensboro boys finished sixth as a team and were led by Michael Ashley, who finished 20th with a time of 17:51.6. The Lady Devils only had three runners, and were led by Emily Farmer with a time of 24:40.3.
