DCMS boys runner-up as local teams compete at state meet

It was a successful day for local middle school teams competing in the cross country state championship. More than 6,000 runners gathered at the KTCCCA Meet of Champions at Masterson Station in Lexington, Ky., Saturday to compete for the title.

The Daviess County Middle School boys team finished as the runner-up for the second consecutive year, while the girls team took third place in their meet.

Individuals from several of the middle schools finished near the top in their respective races. The top five teams in each division were recognized during the awards ceremony, and medals went to the top 50 finishers in each race. Get the full results from the meet here. Top finishers are listed below.

GIRLS RESULTS
• In the 4th and Under Girls 2K division, Ellie Girten from DCMS placed sixth with a time of 8:20.95.

• In the 6th and Under Championship 3K race, Lucy Spaw from Burns Middle School placed fifth (11:56.35).

• In the 6th and Under Championship 3K race, Sally Tidwell of DCMS placed 10th (12:15.35) to lead the team to a third-place finish with a score of 136. Other scorers for DCMS include Bentlei Stallings (12th, 12:15.47), Lauren Clark (58th, 13:00.75), Sadie Morris (65th, 13:03.27) and Aliya Murphy (66th, 13:06.22).

• In the 6th and Under 3K Open division, Kiana November of Owensboro Middle School was the top finisher overall (12:47.02) with teammate Kiley Palmer just behind in second place (12:47.50).

• In the Middle School 4K Championship Race, a top finisher was Kayley Payne from DCMS (23rd, 16:16.82).

BOYS RESULTS
• In the 4th and Under 2K Race, Camryn Edge of DCMS came in 23rd place (7:59.63).

• In the 6th and Under 3K Race, top 50 finishers went to DCMS runners Brody Clark (43rd,11:56.67) and Joe Varble (47th, 12:00.11).

• In the Middle School Championship race, Thomas Ashby led BMS by placing eighth (13:57.64). Tres Farmer led OMS finishing 26th (14:38.24).

• In the Middle School Championship race, DCMS earned a second-place finish (257 points) and was led by Caleb Tidwell (23rd, 14:33.80). Teammates Nolan Kurz (27th, 14:39.33), Toby Morris (37th, 14:48.82), David Gillaspie (60th, 15:20.87) and Trent Coomes (195th, 16:41.69) rounded out the scoring for the team.
