The Apollo volleyball team continued a historic season by wrapping up regional play without dropping a single set all year. A 3-0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-16) victory over Hancock County capped off a dominant tear through local opponents.

Head coach MaryAnne Howard said that’s just how the E-Gals wanted their season to go.

“This was a great win tonight for our program,” she said. “Early this year, one of our goals was to assert ourselves as one of the top teams in the region.”

Apollo (22-7, 11-0 Region 3) will have one more home match at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. They will close out the regular season in the Western Kentucky Smackdown in Hopkinsville.

The district tournament begins Monday, when the top-seeded E-Gals take on Owensboro. The tournament will be played at Daviess County.

“As we shift into the last week of the season, we are preparing to be at our best for district tournament play that starts on Monday,” Howard said. “We know that the success we have had this season has helped to build our team to make a postseason run.”

In the win over Hancock County, Apollo was led by Natalie Ewing (15 kills), Jenna McMillen (6 kills, 6 digs), Carlee Widmer (20 assists, 9 kills) and Hallie Wilson (6 digs).
