KWC soccer, golf teams finish fall seasons

The Kentucky Wesleyan College men’s and women’s soccer teams finished their 2018 campaigns Tuesday, while the golf teams wrapped up their fall seasons the same day.

MEN’S SOCCER
KWC posted a 2-1 victory over Trevecca Nazarene University Tuesday night to close out the 2018 campaign.

Less than nine minutes into the game, the Panthers earned a corner kick that they took advantage of when Jake Peveler tucked the ball into the far post with a header for his first goal of the season. John Landry picked up an assist on the goal.

Just more than three minutes later, Wesleyan netted another goal to go up 2-0. Peveler chipped the ball over the defense to Ben Protheroe, who found the back of the net.

Trevecca scored in the 81st minute, but the Panthers held on for the win.

Lucas Daunhauer picked up his second win of the season in net, making four saves and allowing one goal in 90 minutes of play. The freshman finished the season ranked tied for third in the nation in total saves at 91.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Panthers closed the season by suffering a 3-1 loss at Trevecca Nazarene University.

The Trojans held the advantage in shots in the first half at 10-4, but the teams were tied 0-0 at halftime. Less than three minutes into the second half, Trevecca opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead.

Sidney Pruitt put the Panthers on the board in the 64th minute. The senior sent a shot from the top of the box that bounced past the goalkeeper for Pruitt’s first goal of the season.

Trevecca responded three minutes later before netting their final goal in the 75th minute.

Goalkeeper Brittany Johnston recorded nine saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes of action.

MEN’S GOLF
The men’s golf team finished fifth in the final event of the fall season. The Panthers posted three sub-300 rounds to conclude the Bearcat Intercollegiate at Far Oaks Golf Club. Christian Tooley posted a 1-over-par total to finish in a tie for seventh in the second annual event hosted by McKendree University.

The tournament started on Monday with 36 holes. Wesleyan posted a first round of 299 to sit in a tie for sixth, and they moved up one spot on the leaderboard in the process.

Tooley’s 54-hole total of one over par 217 placed in a tie for seventh out of 45 players.

The Panthers finished with a round of 297. Wesleyan recorded a three-round total of 892 to remain fifth overall, 11 shots behind Illinois Springfield and Parkland.

The Panthers will travel March 11-12 for the Buccaneer Classic in Memphis.

WOMEN’S GOLF
The women’s golf team finished eighth at the Bearcat Intercollegiate. The annual 54-hole event hosted by McKendree University served as the Panthers’ final fall event.

The Panthers posted an opening round of 360 at Far Oaks Golf Club on Monday. Samantha Yake and Kaelen Rice each posted rounds of 85 to help pace Wesleyan. Collectively, the Panthers improved by two shots on the day, posting a second round of 358. The Panthers sat in seventh place after the first two rounds.

Wesleyan finished with a final round of 361. Rice posted a closing round of 91 and finished 30th overall. The Panthers recorded a three-round total of 1,079, three shots behind Rend Lake.

Lindenwood University took top team honors with a 54-hole total of 932.

The Panthers will travel March 11-12 for the Buccaneer Classic in Memphis.
