The Daviess County football team picked up its first win in four weeks with a convincing 49-18 rout of Muhlenberg County on the road.

The Panthers (4-3, 1-1 District 1 Class 6A) lost their two previous games before entering a bye, but an all-around effort helped get them back in the win column.

DCHS recovered its own kickoff to start the game, and the drive ended with an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joey Cambron to Alex Nalley. The Panthers again recovered their own kick and doubled their lead less than a minute later when Shane Riley ran in a score from two yards out.

The Panthers added another touchdown late in the first quarter with a 23-yard reception by Marquel Tinsley. The Mustangs finally had an answer with a 63-yard rushing score, though they missed the extra point.

Cambron and Tinsley hooked up again, this time for a 35-yard strike, and the two replicated a score from that distance a few plays later.

The Panthers added two more scores before halftime. Cambron scored on a 3-yard keeper, but Muhlenberg County responded with a touchdown of their own. They again missed the extra point. The final score for the Panthers was another Cambron-to-Tinsley touchdown from 25 yards out as time expired in the half.

The Mustangs got a touchdown and a failed 2-point conversion one more time in the fourth quarter to end all scoring.

Daviess County stays on the road this week for a 7 p.m. game at Henderson County.
