The Region 3 boys soccer tournament begins today at Apollo with a pair of quarterfinal matches. Two teams got a bye to Tuesday’s semifinal round, and the championship will be Thursday.

Daviess County received a bye, while Owensboro plays in the tournament opener today. Both teams will try to set up a District 9 rematch as they work their way forward from opposite ends of the bracket.

Check below for the full schedule and information on each team. (There is no District 12 for boys soccer.)

Full Schedule

District 9 champion — Daviess County
Record (Overall, Region, District): 18-2-1, 10-0-0, 8-0-0
Quick hit: Daviess County ran through the district and region without a loss, and the biggest challenge came from an early-season match against Owensboro. The Panthers outscored the opponents 127-24, easily scoring the most points and also allowing the least of any team in the region. Their toughest competition will likely come if they meet the Devils in the championship.

District 9 runner-up — Owensboro
Record: 14-5-1, 5-4-0, 4-4-0
Quick hit: The Red Devils had a slow start but quickly picked up momentum to end with a largely successful season. The only other opponent in the region tournament Owensboro faced was Ohio County, who the Devils beat 5-0. They should have relative ease in making it to the championship for another shot at Daviess County.

District 10 champion — Ohio County
Record: 9-7-3, 5-2-1, 3-0-0
Quick hit: A hot start for the Eagles hit a bump midway through the season after a loss to Daviess County. Their only other region loss came to Owensboro. Ohio County got a bye after winning their district, and could get a rematch with the Devils in the second round.

District 10 runner-up — Muhlenberg County
Record: 7-14-0, 0-6-0, 0-3-0
Quick hit: The Mustangs had a tough season and failed to beat a single region opponent. They advanced to the tournament automatically by means of a small district. If they can somehow take down Grayson County in the first round, they’ll face top-seed Daviess County in game two.

District 11 champion — Meade County
Record: 9-9-2, 2-2-0, 2-0-0
Quick hit: The Green Wave went eight games without a win during the middle of the season, but still handily beat Grayson County in the district championship. They have a tough draw in playing Owensboro in the first round, as the Red Devils have been playing well over the last month.

District 11 runner-up — Grayson County
Record: 10-7-0, 2-5-0, 0-2-0
Quick hit: The Cougars overcame an 0-4 start to end the season with a winning record, though their only wins against region opponents were against Muhlenberg County. They’ll face the Mustangs again in the first round to try to make it three-for-three.
