Cheer teams headed to state competition

Local high school cheer teams had another successful outing this weekend, as squads from Owensboro, Apollo and Daviess County all earned a berth in the state championship. The Daviess County Dance Team also advanced to state in two competitions.

The cheer teams competed in the Section 2 Cheerleading Championship, which was comprised of schools from Region 3 and 4. Saturday’s competition was hosted by Bowling Green.

Two teams from Owensboro advanced, as they won the Game Day division and finished runner-up in Coed.

Apollo advanced after winning the Super Large Varsity division, while Daviess County moves on with a runner-up finish in Medium Varsity.

The DC Dance Team place first in Hip Hop and was runner-up in Pom.

All teams now move on to the state championships, which are Dec. 8 at Alltech Arena in Lexington, Ky., with competition beginning at 9 a.m. EST. The dance team will compete Dec. 15.
