Five local golfers named to KGCA All-Region teams

The Apollo, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic golf teams combined to have five players named to the boys’ and girls’ 2018 KGCA All-Region teams. Emma Payne (OCHS) and Daniel Love (DCHS) were named Region 2 Players of the Year.

Daviess County boys’ head coach Lars King was also named the Region Coach of the Year.

Payne, a junior for the Lady Aces, was named the Player of the Year following a season that finished with an appearance in the state tournament, where she tied for 38th. Payne also won the Region 2 Tournament and the Apollo Invitational.

For the boys, Panthers’ junior Daniel Love was named the Player of the Year after he finished tied for 14th at the state tournament. He also tied for second at the Region 2 Tournament and won the city-county tournament.

Apollo had two players named to the girls’ team in senior Briley Carter and freshman Macey Brown. Carter finished second after a playoff in the city-county tournament. Brown ended the season at the state tournament, where she tied for 30th.

Owensboro Catholic freshman Jakob Wellman was also named to the boys’ team. Wellman won the Region 2 Tournament and finished in tie for 44th at state.

King was named the Region 2 Boys’ Coach of the Year after a dominant season with his team. The Panthers easily won the region tournament and advanced to the final round of the state tournament, where they finished in 12th place.
