KWC bowling wins first ever tournament

The Kentucky Wesleyan College women’s bowling team had an impressive outing over the weekend, bringing home the program’s first tournament title in their fourth-ever outing.

The Panthers defeated another first-year program, Lewis University, in the championship to be crowned champions of the Crusader Classic.

After day one, Wesleyan sat in third place after picking up three wins over Lewis, Aurora and North Central.

The Panthers defeated Valparaiso 975-823 on day two to move up to second in total pin count.  A 904-827 win over Elmhurst allowed the Panthers to claim the No. 2 seed going into the final day of competition.

Wesleyan opened day three with an upset, defeating the No. 1 seed and nationally-ranked No. 21 Wisconsin-Whitewater by a score of 4-3 to advance to the championship match. The Panthers took down Lewis 4-2 in the championship to earn the title.

Four individuals placed in the top 13 for the Panthers, with Alyssa Zombirt placing eighth with a five-game average of 188.80 pins. Kayla Payne averaged 186.60 pins to finish 11th, while Angelique McKeny and Erika Sisk averaged 185.00 to place 12th and 13th, respectively.

The Panthers return on action on Nov. 24-25 when they head to Fairview Heights, Ill., to compete in the National Collegiate Team Invitational.
