The Kentucky Wesleyan College football team closed out its 2018 campaign Saturday, suffering a 51-7 loss to Alderson Broaddus University in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Founders Cup.
The first quarter was back-and-forth, as neither team was able to put points on the board. The two teams combined for just 95 yards of total offense in the first frame.
The Battlers made a statement in the second quarter with 23 points, including one defensive touchdown and a safety. Alderson Broaddus didn’t let up in the second half, putting 14 points on the board in each of the final two quarters.
Wesleyan finally got some rhythm in the final frame, putting together a seven-play, 75-yard scoring drive. Derek Barnes hauled in a 33-yard reception before Kam Taylor went for a 13-yard run. Jacob Yates recorded an 11-yard catch to break into Alderson Broaddus territory, and Taylor punched in a 1-yard run for the Panthers lone score of the day.
Mike McGee finished with seven completions for 80 yards, while Dessi Austin had 74 yards on 11 completions.
Barnes led the Panther receivers with six catches for 53 yards. Yates tallied 30 yards on three catches.
Moe Carter anchored the defense with 10 tackles. Jalen Humphrey added nine and Armand Childs had seven.
Wesleyan finishes the 2018 season with an overall record of 3-7 with wins over Kentucky State, Malone and Lake Erie. The Panthers finished 2-6 in conference play.
