KWC: Wrestling, XC teams in action

The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling and cross country teams were both in action Saturday. Three wrestlers picked up wins in their matches, while the runners finished their season in the conference meet.

WRESTLING
The Panthers’ wrestling team continued its season at the competitive Lindenwood Open on Saturday. Andrew Parker, Caleb Craig and Kohana Wilks each picked up wins on the afternoon.

Wilks fought through his opening match at 184 to earn a 6-5 decision over Trajae Lackland from Iowa Central CC. Wilks was pinned in the second round before being shutout by Kevin Zange in the consolation round.

Craig lost his opening match of the day at 141, but bounced back in next round with a third period pin of Joseph Rice from Missouri Valley. In the ensuing consolation round, Zachary Carr of Lindenwood edged Craig with a 7-4 decision.

After receiving a bye in the opening round, Parker lost a 13-2 decision to Xavier Maxwell of Ellsworth CC. Parker then picked-up a 13-5 major decision in the consolation round over Kurt Kaiser from Missouri Valley. Dominick Arellano ended Parker’s run in the next round, defeating Parker 16-0.

The Panthers will travel to Louisville on Nov. 29th to face off with Bellarmine at 5 p.m.

CROSS COUNTRY
The Kentucky Wesleyan men’s cross country team battled snow flurries and temperatures below 30 degrees Saturday at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich.

Wesleyan placed 27th with a team average of 35:42 in the 10K race. The Panthers placed ahead of Great Midwest Athletic Conference foes Ohio Valley, Alderson Broaddus and Ohio Dominican.

Chase Bland was the top finisher for the Panthers, posting a time of 34:19.7 to place 116th.  George Marsch crossed in 35:24.9 to finish 156th. Collin Zollman was next with a time of 35:36.5 to place 160th.

Patrick Quire finished 175th with a time of 36:14.7, while Tyler Dobbs finished in 36:50.7 to place 186th. Bronzon Yator placed 207th, crossing in 39:59.5.
