The Kentucky Wesleyan wrestling team held its first ever match Saturday, while the cross country and volleyball teams finished their 2018 seasons.
WRESTLING
KWC hosted its first wrestling match on Saturday afternoon at Jones Gymnasium. The Panthers started their inaugural season with a 35-9 exhibition loss to Thomas More.
LaMont Wilson, Caleb Craig and Daniel Lopez each recorded victories for Wesleyan.
At 125, Wilson picked-up an 8-7 decision. Wilson, the aggressor throughout, kept his opponent on the mat for a majority of the second period and was too elusive to take down in the final period.
Adam Bender and Nick Ornelas could not connect on their chances at 133 and 141. Bender suffered a narrow 10-7 loss, while Ornelas fell 3-0 to Devin Wood.
Craig outlasted Cody Roland at 149, scoring late to take control and finishing with a 5-0 victory. At heavyweight, Lopez capped the day off with a 9-3 victory over Tyler Kassinger.
The Panthers travel to St. Louis Saturday to compete at the Kauffman Brand Open, hosted at Maryville University.
