“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Apollo 61, Hancock County 56
The Eagles (1-0) opened the season with a road win by edging out the Hornets (0-1). A strong second quarter Cameron Frantz — 11 points with three made 3-pointers — helped Apollo get the victory.

Frantz and Nathan Mewes, who had four 3-pointers, both finished with 15 total points. The Eagles also got scoring from Luke Girvin (11 points), Ryan Ash (10 points), Landon Hamilton (4 points), Harrison Bowman (4 points) and Evan Deaton (2 points).

Apollo plays again today in their home opener as they host Grayson County at 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Breckinridge County 56, Daviess County 44
The Lady Panthers (0-1) were only down two points at halftime, but the Lady Tigers (1-0) pulled away late to earn the home win.

Daviess County hit 10 3-pointers as a team and were led by Claire Johnson and Katie Mewes with 12 points each. The Lady Panthers also got scoring from Kailey Bowers (7 points), Ella Payne (6 points), Brooklyn Daugherty (4 points) and Jersey Vanover (3 points).

Daviess County is off until Saturday when they host North Hardin at 1 p.m.
