Local runners are preparing today for Saturday’s state meet after successful showings at their respective regional races. The state championship races begin at 9:30 a.m. EST Saturday at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., with race times staggered through the early afternoon.
Apollo, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic are each sending full boys and girls teams, while Owensboro also has one male runner competing as an individual.
Among all Class 1A Regional races (seven separate meets), Owensboro Catholic’s Austin Stallings (16:46.35) had the sixth-fastest time for the boys and Alexandra Scheithe (20:54.00) was 13th-quickest for the girls.
In Class 3A girls region action (seven separate meets), Daviess County’s Karlee Hoffman (18:46.39) was second-fastest in the state, and Apollo’s Sammie Roberts (20:02.26) finished 17th. For the boys, Daviess County’s Brady Terry (16:22.99, 13th), Apollo’s Ethan Dych (17:16.13, 62nd), and Owensboro’s Michael Ashley (17:33.35, 92nd) were the top finishers on each local team.
Following each race Saturday, trophies will be awarded to the top four teams of each class. The top 15 individuals to finish in each race will receive awards as well.
