The Brescia University men’s basketball team picked up a big victory Saturday, beating Alice Lloyd College 89-86 on the road. The women’s team fell 85-72 in the first game of the River State Conference doubleheader.

MEN
Trailing as many as 13 points in the first half, the Bearcats fought back to trail only 41-38 at the break. After some halftime adjustments the Bearcats shot 67.9 percent in the second half to win  improve to 5-6 (2-0 RSC).

Five Bearcats were in double digits, and Dillon Geralds and Tristen Murray had 20 points each. Zack McDaniel added 16 off the bench, while Kayode Daboiku and Damontae Barnhill scored 14 points each. Geralds also finished with 11 rebounds.

“I thought the key was our effort on defense in the second half as well as the adjustment we made at halftime on the offensive end,” said head coach Brian Skortz. “Geralds played well and hit some key shots. Murray really stepped up and shot it well and played really hard on defense. McDaniel shot the ball well and hit a couple of 3-pointers in key parts of the game. This was a team win.”

Brescia shot 49.2 percent from the field for the game and 50 percent from 3-point range.

Brescia will play on Thursday when they host IU Southeast at the Moore Center. After IUSE lost to Asbury, the Bearcats currently hold in first place in the West Division to start the conference season.

WOMEN
Brescia stayed within striking distance for much of the game, but Alice Lloyd was able to stretch their lead in the second half to hand the Lady Bearcats their first conference loss.

Catherine Dunn led the effort with a game-high 21 points and five steals, and Cassidy Moss added 12 points and nine rebounds. Loreal Cheaney and Hallie Fisher both scored 9 points, and Aaliyah Rogers had 8.
