The Apollo girls’ basketball team erased a 10-point deficit in the second half to come out on top in a 53-49 win over South Warren at home Tuesday.

It was a nice bounce back for the E-Gals (3-2), who came off a disappointing loss to Owensboro Catholic last week, and they handed the Spartans (3-2) their second loss of the year.

Apollo got double-digit scoring from four players, and they went 12-for-17 from the free throw line to pull out the win. They finished with 10 assists on 17 made field goals.

“I was really proud of the grit in the second half, to be able to come back from a 10-point deficit,” said head coach Natalie Payne. “It was a true team win. We had several players contribute and we did a great job of sharing the ball.”

Lexi Shadowen led the scoring effort with 16 points, adding four rebounds. Amber Dunn scored 14 points — hitting three 3-pointers — and pulled down five rebounds to go along with three steals.

Kassidy Daugherty scored 10 points and had four rebounds and five assists. Zoe Floyd also scored 10 — going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field — and pulled down six boards. Brylee Rhodes added two points.

The E-Gals remain home Friday to host Owensboro, who lost their first game of the season Tuesday night. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. for the 9th District matchup.
