HS Basketball: Trinity (girls)
College basketball: KWC (men’s and women’s)

HS BASKETBALL
The Trinity girls’ basketball team wasn’t able to shake a slow start in Wednesday’s 57-46 loss to Allen County-Scottsville in the PBI/Danny Annis Classic at Ohio County.

After falling behind 15-5 after the first quarter, the Lady Raiders (4-3) were only able to match the Lady Eagles (9-1) over the final three periods.

Trinity was led Josie Aull with 14 points, and Cassidy Morris and Nina Wathen each added 11. Other scorers were Morgan Kinsey (3), Georgia Howard (3), Hadley Hatfield (2) and Katherine Hibbitt (2).

The Lady Raiders continue the tournament Thursday with a 7 p.m. game against Ohio County.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Men
The Kentucky Wesleyan College men’s basketball team lost 87-67 at Lincoln Memorial University on Wednesday after a strong start to the second half allowed the Railsplitters to pull away.

Back-to-back jumpers from Adam Goetz gave Wesleyan (4-6) their first lead of the game at the 14:22 mark before three straight 3-pointers from the Railsplitters (8-3) allowed them to regain an 8-point lead.

Tarik Dixon knocked back another three at the 2:36 mark to take a 32-31 lead. Dixon finished the first half a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc including one in the final 30 seconds as the Panthers faced a 40-35 deficit at the break.

Lincoln Memorial opened the second half with a 22-3 run to take a 62-38 lead with just under 12 minutes remaining.

Deng Mayot finished with 17 points and four rebounds for the Panthers. Dixon scored 15 points off the bench on 5-for-5 shooting to go along with a team-high four assists. Goetz tabbed 13 points, while Mohamed Abu Arisha led Wesleyan with five rebounds.

The Panthers return home to the Sportscenter for their final non-conference game of the season against Alice Lloyd College at 10 a.m. on Dec. 29.

Women
The Panthers (7-3) earned a wire-to-wire victory in a dominant 80-33 home win over Indiana University East.

Emma Johnson polished-off a 10-0 run to start the game with her layup at the six-minute mark of the opening quarter. The Panthers outscored the Red Wolves (4-10) 17-2 in the opening period and the wave of momentum continued into the second quarter as Shayla Wright converted her first of four 3-point baskets to establish a 23-2 lead.

The Panthers ended the first half on another 10-0 run to take a 41-7 lead into the locker room. Wesleyan held the Red Wolves into 30 percent shooting and forced 32 turnovers on the day. Wright finished the game with 12 points, while Lily Grimes added 10 points, five rebounds and five assists. Kaylee Duncan and Kaylee Clifford each finished with nine points, and Duncan picked-up four steals.

The Panthers will return to action Dec. 29 when they host Alice Lloyd College. Tipoff at the Sportscenter will be at noon.
