Sports: Dec. 20 — Trinity boys’/girls’ basketball

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

Both Trinity basketball teams were in action in separate tournaments Thursday night. The boys came out with a 73-62 win over Providence (Tenn.), while the girls fell 56-39 to Ohio County.

BOYS
Tied 52-52 heading into the final quarter, the Raiders (5-3) used a big final period to come out on top in the Aleris Christmas Tournament at Hancock County.

Landon Hall scored nine points in the fourth and Ethan Howard added eight. The defense only allowed 10 points at the other end.

Trenton Morris led overall scoring for Trinity with 20 points. Hall finished with 13 and Howard had 12. Joe Brown scored 11 and Cameron Wright got 8, while Brendan Wathen had 4 off the bench.

The tournament continues Friday and Saturday for the Raiders.

GIRLS
The Lady Raiders (4-4) were only down two at the half, but the Lady Eagles (10-1) pulled away in the third and added to their lead in the fourth to get the win in day two of the PBI/Danny Annis Classic at Ohio County.

Cassidy Morris led Trinity with 14 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Other scorers were Jose Aull (8), Morgan Kinsey (8), Katherine Hibbitt (3), Nina Wathen (2) and Hadley Hatfield (2).

The Lay Raiders will play in the final day of the tournament against Hancock County on Friday.
