Sports: Dec. 21 — Trinity teams both win big

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

Both Trinity basketball teams won their respective games in separate tournaments Friday. The boys beat Crittenden County 71-55, and the girls nearly matched the score with a 68-55 victory over Hancock County.

BOYS
Joe Brown hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 24 points to lead the Raiders (6-3) to a decisive win over the Rockets (3-7) in day two of the Aleris Christmas Tournament at Hancock County.

Three other players finished in double figures in Trenton Morris (12), Brenden Wathen (11) and Landon Hall (10). Ethan Howard added 9, Owen Payne had 3 and Jamison Mills finished with 2.

Trinity went 22-for-29 from the free throw line, and a big second quarter put them up 28-17 at the half.

The Raiders finish up the tournament today and round out the calendar Dec. 29 at home against McLean County.

GIRLS
Cassidy Morris scored nearly half the team’s points, putting up 30 for the Lady Raiders (5-4) in a big victory over the Lady Hornets (3-8) in the PBI/Danny Annis Classic. Morris hit seven shots, and she went 16-for-21 at the free throw line.

Nina Wathen added 18 points, and Josie Aull scored 13 while hitting three 3-pointers. Morgan Kinsey scored 4, Katherine Hibbitt had 2 and Georgia Howard added 1.

Trinity finishes up 2018 with a road contest at Warren Central on Dec. 29.
