Sports: Dec. 22 — Raiders crowned tournament champs

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

The Trinity boys’ basketball team was crowned champions of the Aleris Christmas Tournament with Saturday night’s 70-62 win over host Hancock County.

The Raiders (7-3) had a five-point lead disappear as the Hornets (3-7) tied the game at 38-38. The teams remained tied heading into the fourth, where Ethan Howard and Trenton Morris combined to hit 12 free throws to help Trinity come away with a win.

Howard led the team with 20 points, and Morris added 16. Brenden Wathen scored 13 and Joe Brown finished with 10. Others scoring were Landon Hall (5), Sam Russelburg (2), Ben Goetz (2) and Devin Rhinerson (2).

The Raiders close out 2018 at home Dec. 29 against McLean County.
