“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

GIRLS
McLean County 52, Owensboro 33
The Lady Devils (6-7) had a few key starters missing, and it kept their offense from ever establishing itself in the home loss to the Lady Cougars (6-8).

Despite some early struggles, Owensboro only trailed 11-10 after the first quarter with six points from Amaya Curry. They were outscored 6-2 over the final three minutes of the first half, though, and faced a 24-17 deficit at the break.

McLean County stretched their lead to as much as 18 points in the third quarter before Curry and Nia Gonzo combined for a 10-0 run for the Lady Devils to close the frame. They only points in the fourth quarter came from four free throws by Krystell Pappas, while the Lady Cougars got some buckets to maintain a comfortable lead.

Curry led Owensboro with 14 points. Gonzo had 8 and Pappas added 5. Lyric Lawrence (4) and Kaylyn Sanders (2) also scored.

The Lady Devils return to action Friday when they travel to Owensboro Catholic for a 9th District game at 5:30 p.m.

Daviess County 55, Livingston Central 44
The Lady Panthers (1-11) picked up their first win of the season over the Lady Cardinals (0-13) at the Lady Storm United Mine Workers of America Classic at Hopkins County Central.

Katie Mewes and Claire Johnson each had 14 points, and Johnson hit four 3-pointers. Kailey Bowers (8), Ella Payne (6), Brooklyn Daugherty (6), Jersey Vanover (3), Emma Anderson (2) and Shealyn Mason (2) also scored.

Daviess County will play Madisonville-North Hopkins at 12:45 p.m. Saturday in the final round of the tournament.

Highlands 41, Owensboro Catholic 33
The Lady Aces (8-4) held a slim lead at the half but fell to the Bluebirds (11-2) in the LaRosa’s Holiday Classic at Conner.

Sarah Beth Clemens had a team-high 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Also scoring were Hannah McKay (8), Madelyn Lyon (6), Caroline Reid (3), Spencer Harvey (3) and Mackenzie Keelin (2).

Catholic will play Simon Kenton in at 1:30 p.m. today in the tournament.

Graves County 47, Apollo 25
The E-Gals (8-6) weren’t able to get much going on offense in the loss to the Lady Eagles (8-5) in the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren.

Lexi Shadowen had a team-high 9 points, and Addison Carter scored 6 of a pair of 3-pointers. Also scoring were Regan Rone (4), Kassidy Daugherty (3), AMber Dunn (2) and Zoe Floyd (1).

The tournament wraps up Saturday.

BOYS
Owensboro Catholic 62, Greenwood 52
The Aces (9-2) used a big second quarter to take a lead and hold on against the Gators (6-5) in the South Central Bank-Halton Classic at Allen-County Scottsville.

Drew Hartz came off the bench to lead the team with 16 points, while Andrew Riney added 14 and John Parker had 12. Other scorers were Peyton Survant (7), Zach Cecil (6), Ty Vincent (4) and Bran Griffith (3).

Catholic plays the host Patriots at 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

Allen-County Scottsville 68, Daviess County 50
The Panthers (4-7) couldn’t overcome a big early deficit in a loss to the host Patriots (11-2) in the South Central Bank-Halton Classic at Allen-County Scottsville.

Dakota Walden scored 18 points to lead the team. Also scoring for Daviess County were Gavan Ray (7), Christopher Hillard (6), Will Barron (6), Camron Johnson (4), Chase Luckett (4), Cameron Jones (3) and Ryan Thomson (2).

The Panthers will play Greenwood at 6 p.m. Saturday in the tournament.

Bowling Green 78, Owensboro 63
The Red Devils (7-5) were outscored 20-8 in the first quarter and were never able to make a comeback against the Purples (9-2) at the Meijer Holiday Classic in Bowling Green.

Darrion Wimsatt led all scorers with 26 points. Also scoring for Owensboro were Jaiden Greathouse (12), Isaac Humphrey (11), Amari Wales (4), Imonte Owsley (3), Gavin Wimsatt (3) and Aireon Phillips (3).

Valley 54, Apollo 51
The Eagles (1-12) were barely edged out by the Vikings (5-7) in the first day of the Marshall County Holiday Classic.

Harrison Bowman led the team with 14 points, and Ryan Ash added 13. Also coring were Dan St. Claire (8), Landon Hamilton (6), Austin Benningfield (4), Jaden Kelley (4) and Evan Deaton (2).

Apollo continues tournament play against Hopkins County Central today at noon at plays host Marshall County at 7:30 p.m.
