As he was jumping over the line to save a ball from going out of bounds, Dillon Geralds made a long one-handed toss to the other end of the floor. Darion Morrow caught it off the first bounce and floated the ball up to a streaking Kayode Daboiku, who finished off the play with an emphatic dunk that sent nearly everyone in the gym to their feet.

It was the highlight play of an impressive sequence that allowed the Brescia University men’s basketball team to create separation and earn a 74-51 win at home over Point Park University on Thursday night.

It was slow going through the first half for both teams, but the Bearcats (10-7, 7-1) stepped up after the break to earn their fifth victory in a row.

“It was a grind,” said Brescia head coach Brian Skortz. “It was good to see the energy at times defensively. Defense keeps you in games like this. We were able to at least get some hands up and challenge and for the most part, rebound the basketball.”

Skortz said Morrow helped provide a spark in the second half. He scored 11 of his team-high 15 points in the second frame, and he also had a few big assists.

“He’s been shooting the ball fairly well for us,” Skortz said. “In the second half here, he took it upon himself to attack the rim a little bit more and that got his jump shot going. He also had a couple beautiful assists in transition.”

During their big run, Zach McDaniel got a wide open dunk in transition, and a hard drive and score by Morrow put the Bearcats up 66-39 with just under 6 minutes to play.

“We were able to get our style going,” Skortz said. “We were able to run, get out wide, attack and use our athletic ability to get to the rim. In that spell that we built the lead off of, we started to get back to the things we’ve been doing really well.”

Daboiku finished with 11 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Geralds added 11 points and 6 assists. McDaniel scored 8, adding 6 rebounds and 4 assits.

Brescia will remain home Saturday when they host Carlow University at 3 p.m.
