The Apollo girls’ basketball team had to overcome and early double-digit deficit and hold off a late push, but they pulled out a 40-36 home win over Daviess County on Friday.

The 9th District victory broke a five-game losing streak for the E-Gals (9-7, 2-1), who narrowly escaped the Lady Panthers (1-13, 0-3) for the second time this season.

Zoe Floyd finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Apollo. Shelbie Beatty also scored 12, all coming from 3-pointers.

Following a surge that left Daviess County with a 20-9 lead, Beatty hit three in a row during an Apollo run over the final 3:45 of the first half to put the E-Gals up 24-22 at the break.

For Daviess County, Emma Anderson hit five 3-pointers and Claire Johnson hit two to keep the Lady Panthers within striking distance.

Beatty and Kassidy Daugherty each hit a 3 for the only Apollo points in the third, though Daviess County only scored three points of their own — all free throws by Kailey Bowers.

The E-Gals hit six of seven free throw attempts in the final quarter to maintain a slim advantage and hang on for the win.

Apollo will travel Monday to play Butler County at 7:30 p.m.

Daviess County will stay home Monday to host Ohio County at 7 p.m.
