KWC basketball teams sweep doubleheader

The Kentucky Wesleyan College women’s basketball team rolled to their ninth win in a row, and the men’s team rounded out the doubleheader with a victory of their own Saturday.

The women had no trouble getting an 87-46 win over Ohio Valley University, and the men used a big first half to beat OVU 80-69.

WOMEN
Kelsey Ivers hit a 3-pointer for the Panthers (13-3) for a 5-2 lead, and Kentucky Wesleyan never looked back in a dominating win. Ivers and Jenna Martin combined for 25 points in the first half alone as the Panthers took a 50-27 lead to the break.

Wesleyan kept rolling in the third quarter, outscoring the Fighting Scots by 20 points.

Martin finished with 23 points and Ivers added 12, while Lamb scored 11 points and had 7 rebounds.

The Panthers return home to the Sportscenter for a six-game homestand, hosting Hillsdale on Thursday and Findlay on Saturday.

MEN
Four starters reached double figures for the Panthers (7-8, 5-4), and Mohamed Abu Arisha nearly had a double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Tarik Dixon gave the Panthers the lead for good with a 3-point bucket in the first five minutes. The Panthers equaled their biggest lead of the game after Nick Fort ended the half with a jumper, giving Wesleyan a 47-35 advantage at the break.

Adam Goetz gave Wesleyan its biggest lead, 67-51, after his 3-pointer with 7 minutes left in the contest.

Erik Bell finished the game with 18 points and 6 assists. Goetz added 17 points and 5 assists. Tyler Bezold added 11 points.

The Panthers will be back home Thursday against the top team in the conference, hosting Hillsdale at 7:45 p.m.
