KWC women win 6th game in a row

The Kentucky Wesleyan College women’s basketball team posted their sixth consecutive victory on Thursday, earning a 78-61 win over Davis & Elkins College.

The 17-point road win marks the fourth Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory in a row for the Panthers. Wesleyan led the entire 40 minutes and hit 11 3-pointers.

Kaylee Clifford opened the scoring for the Panthers before Kelsey Ivers drained back-to-back jumpers. Clifford went on to score 7 points in the first quarter.

Despite not shooting free throws in the second period, Wesleyan was able to extend their lead to 35-22 by halftime.

The teams each scored 22 points in the third for a big Wesleyan lead heading into to the final frame.

Kaylee Duncan nailed a 3-pointer with 7:41 to go to put the Panthers ahead by 22, their largest lead of the game.

Clifford led the Panthers with 19 points while grabbing a team-high five rebounds. Duncan scored 14 points off the bench while Keelie Lamb and Jenna Martin each had 12. Lamb and Grimes dished out four assists each while Lamb, Martin and Grimes all had three steals.

The Panthers close out the weekend road trip in Philippi, W.V., where they will face Alderson Broaddus University at 1 p.m. Saturday.
