After going down by as many as 14 points late in the third quarter, Brescia University stormed back to take a 3-point lead with 24.3 seconds to play when Catherine Dunn drained one from deep as the shot clock expired.

Down 80-77 with 4.9 left, Point Park University (8-12, 4-5 RSC) hit a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime, where they eventually beat the Lady Bearcats 88-82 Thursday.

Though Brescia (4-15, 2-6 RSC) couldn’t hang on for the win at home, head coach Mike Gray was happy with the fight his team showed.

“We’ve been working hard here lately,” Gray said. “We’ve had an injury bug, so a lot of kids stepped up tonight and they competed. When they do those type of things for me, there’s nothing but good things I can talk about.”

He said not being able to close out the game with a only a few seconds to play was disappointing, but the Lady Bearcats can learn from the loss.

“That’s just a learning curve our team has to go through. We have the pieces, but what I like about my team right now is how hard they’re playing. They’re playing with their hearts.

Dunn led Brescia with 27 points, pulling down 6 rebounds, and Gray said she’s a key player he knows will perform.

“Dunn’s always going to score,” he said. “I know what I can expect out of Catherine. She’s going to do that each and every night.”

Cassidy Moss finished with 16 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. Though she has to go up against bigger players, Gray said Moss doesn’t let her size stop her.

“She’s undersized but she still works tremendously hard,” he said. “She’s scrappy. She can play inside and out.”

The Lady Bearcats held an 8-point lead early in the first half before falling behind by double digits. They hit eight 3-pointers, with four coming from Dunn.

Brescia will remain home Saturday when they host Carlow University at 1 p.m.
