“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

Girls’ basketball: Apollo, Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic
Boys’ basketball: Daviess County, Owensboro Catholic, Trinity

GIRLS
Owensboro Catholic 55, McLean County 33
The Lady Aces (11-6) struggled from long range, but 24 points from Sarah Beth Clemens lifted them past the Lady Cougars (7-11) in the semifinal of the 3rd Region All “A” Classic at Hancock County.

Catholic got 12 second-chance points and pulled away in the third quarter. Hannah McKay added 14 points and 5 rebounds.

The Lady Aces advance to the championship game against Edmonson County at 7 p.m. Monday, with an appearance in the All “A” state tournament on the line.

The Lady Devils (7-9) broke a nine-game losing streak with a narrow win over the Lady Blazers (9-6) on the road. Amaya Curry scored 19 points, with 14 coming in the second half, to lead all scorers.

Owensboro trailed by 2 points after the first and by 1 at the half, but they took a slim lead in the third quarter. They went 9-of-12 at the line in the fourth to help get the win.

Owensboro returns home Tuesday to host Grayson County at 6 p.m.

Bowling Green 56, Apollo 38
Though they hit six 3-pointers, the E-Gals (10-8) couldn’t keep up with the Purples (13-4) in a loss at home. Kassidy Daugherty led the team with 10 points.

Bowling Green took an 18-8 advantage after the first quarter, and they continued to extend the lead throughout the game.

The E-Gals hit the road Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. game at Breckinridge County.

The Aces (11-5) used 26 points from John Parker and a big second quarter to pick up a win over the Cougars (6-9) in the semifinal of the 3rd Region All “A” Classic at Hancock County.

Parker had 7 points in the first period to put Catholic up 12-9, and the took a 37-19 lead at the half. The Aces went 12-for-17 at the line in the second half and maintained their lead for the remainder of the game.

Catholic advances to the championship game against Trinity at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with an appearance in the All “A” state tournament on the line.

The Raiders (10-6) had no trouble getting past the Aces (0-15) in the semifinal of the 3rd Region All “A” Classic at Hancock County. Trenton Morris led with 15 points, and Trinity got scoring from 13 players.

Morris scored 10 of his points in the second quarter, and the Raiders held a 32-25 lead at the half before blowing the game open. The Aces only hit three baskets in the second half while Trinity had no trouble getting points.

The Raiders advance to the championship game against Owensboro Catholic at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with an appearance in the All “A” state tournament on the line.

The Panthers (6-9) kept things close but fell just short against the Raiders (9-5) in the BSN Sports Kay Morris Classic at Russell County.

Dakota Walden scored 25 points, and Gavan Ray nearly had a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Daviess County only attempted three free throws — hitting two — while Warren Central went 14-for-19 at the line.

The Panthers stay on the road at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Edmonson County.
