The Trinity girls’ and boys’ basketball teams split a 12th District doubleheader at Edmonson County on Friday. The girls couldn’t overcome and early deficit, while the boys fought off a late run to pick up a win.
BOYS
A big halftime lead was nearly erased, but the Raiders (8-4, 2-0) stayed perfect in district play by knocking off the Wildcats (6-9, 1-2) on the road.
Trinity used eight points by Trenton Morris to take an 18-10 lead after the first quarter. Morris added seven more to help push the lead to 38-22 at the half.
The Raiders struggled to score in the third, but held on just enough by going 6 for-10 at the free throw line to edge past the Wildcats.
Morris and Ethan Howard tied for a game-high 17 points, and Howard went 6-for-7 at the line.
Trinity will play again today at 3:30 p.m. by making the short trip to Owensboro, who just knocked off Owensboro Catholic for the second time this season.

GIRLS
They Lady Raiders (6-5) spent most of the night at the free throw line, though they struggled to knock down their shots. They finished 28-for-42 from the charity stripe, compared to 23-for-27 for the Lady Cats (10-4, 2-1).
Cassidy Morris led the team with 17 points, going 12-for-19 at the lin.e
The second quarter doomed Trinity, as they were outscored 24-13. They couldn’t make up any ground in the second half, only hitting six shots over the final two quarters.
They also had a tough time stopping Edmonson County’s Chanley Logsdon, who hit six 3-pointers and finished with 25 points.
Trinity stays on the road Saturday for a 3 p.m. meeting with University Heights.
