After finishing the season with a mark of 13-9 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action, the Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team earned the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament that begins Thursday. It marks Wesleyan’s sixth straight appearance in the G-MAC tournament.

Last season, the No. 7 seeded Panthers advanced to the championship before falling to No. 4 seed Hillsdale. Two years ago, the Panthers made a perfect run as the No. 2 seed to capture the G-MAC title.

This year, Wesleyan will start their quest for another championship when they face No. 4 seed Cedarville University, who sits at 15-7 in conference play this year. First pitch is set for 9 a.m. Thursday at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.

The winner will face the victor of No. 1 seed Ohio Dominican vs. No. 8 seed Hillsdale College later in the day at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio. The losing teams will also play at later at Firestone Stadium.

Wesleyan enters the tournament with one of the top offenses in the league, boasting a team batting average of .308 compared to Cedarville’s .281. The Panthers have combined for 23 home runs this season, more than double that of Cedarville.
