The CrossFit Rugrats are bringing home four national championships and a pair of runner-up finishes after a dominant performance in the USA Weightlifting 2019 National Youth Championships.
First-place finishers in their respective divisions were Timothy Davis — a two-time champion — Macy Foreman, Addison Bell and Kylie Strehl. Sam Burden and Isaias Morrison each took second place in their divisions.
The Rugrats’ girls also teamed with some girls from some other barbell clubs and formed a team called 3rd Rock Elite, and they took home first place overall as a unified team.
There will be a ceremony to honor the athletes from 12-2 p.m. Saturday at the CrossFit Rugrats gym inside Towne Square Mall.
The championships, held over the weekend in Anaheim, Calif., featured Olympic-style weightlifting, with all participants completing the snatch as well as the clean and jerk.
Foreman and Davis both swept their events to earn three gold medals each. Bell and Strehl both came home with two golds. All six competitors from Owensboro finished third or better in each lift.
Foreman, competing in the 13U 71kg division, took gold in the snatch and the clean and jerk to also earn the overall gold medal.
Davis placed first in both lifts of the 14-15 81 kg division to secure his second national championship.
Bell won the 11U 49kg championship after taking first in the snatch and third in the clean and jerk.
Strehl’s first-place finish in the 14-15 71kg class was the result of a gold medal in the clean and jerk and silver in the snatch.
Burden’s second-place finish in the 11U 67kg class came after a pair of silver medals in the snatch and the clean and jerk.
Morrison was the 13U 67kg runner-up after taking third in snatch and second in clean and jerk.
The Rugrats are coached by the father-daughter duo of Tim Davis and Karina Delgadillo.
