Aces win All ‘A’ regional tournament, advance to state

Led by medalist Reece Higdon, the Owensboro Catholic boys’ golf team won the 3rd Region All “A” Tournament on Thursday to qualify for the small-school state tournament next month.

The Aces shot 165 as a team, beating out out Edmonson County (185), Trinity (208) and Hancock County (216) in Thursday’s event at Windward Heights Country Club.

Higdon paced Catholic with a 38, followed by Jakob Wellman with a 39. Also scoring were JT Payne (43) and Noah Johnson (45).

For Trinity, Blake BcBrayer and Landon Huff each shot 50. Braden McBrayer (51) and Aaron Howard (57) also scored for the Raiders.

Catholic advances to the All “A” State Tournament, held the first weekend of September at Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond.
