LASHBROOK, CHANCELLOR LEAD OHS PAST APOLLO
Owensboro’s Jack Lashbrook and Andrew Chancellor tied for the low round of 40 as the Red Devils’ beat Apollo 178-223 at Ben Hawes Golf Course.
Lashbrook said he was strong off the tee and near the green, allowing him to avoid many mistakes.
“I was hitting my driver pretty straight and I made some good chips to save par on a lot of holes,” he said.
Chancellor said his performance in the fairway has helped him improve since last season.
“My iron play is doing really well right now, and so are my chips and putts,” he said. “I’ve been working pretty hard on that part of my game.”
Also scoring for Owensboro were Will Hume and James Rhineburger, each with a 49.
Apollo was led by Nathan Payne (51) and also got scores from Ethan Dych (56), Isaac Crabtree (57) and Tanner Klee (59).
OCHS, DCHS TEAMS, APOLLO’S BROWN COMPETE IN TALENT-FILLED INVITATIONAL
Both Owensboro Catholic and Daviess County were part of a 16-team field that included state title contenders Lexington Christian Academy (1st, 303), Sacred Heart (2nd, 318) and Warren Central (3rd, 327) at the Lady Gator Invitational at Bowling Green Country Club.
The Lady Aces finished with a 367 and were paced by Emma Payne’s 82. Also scoring were Maddi Roberts (84), Abby Bahnick (92) and Conleigh Osborne (109).
In their first event of the season, Daviess County shot a 377. Scores came from Holly Holton (88), Addison Heady (93), Emilee Clark (94) and Kirsten Henderson (102).
Apollo’s Macey Brown also played in the Invitational and tied for 10th individually with a 77.
RAIDERS EDGED BY BUTLER COUNTY AT WINDRIDGE
Butler County beat Trinity by only 14 strokes in a two-team match at Windridge Country Club. The Raiders (198) got scoring from Blake McBrayer (45), Landon Huff (47), Hunter O’Bryan (55) and Brady McBrayer (51).
ACES’ WELLMAN IN ACTION AS INDIVIDUAL
Jakob Wellman shot a 76 in Greenwood Gator Invitational in Bowling Green. In field that featured top talent across the state, the low round was 70 and five golfers finished under par.
